Unit 1: Number System

Rational Numbers

• “What is a rational number?” revision with examples and only discussion of properties.

• There lies another rational number between any two rational numbers (Problems relating to inserting 1,2,3, up to n rational numbers between two rational numbers).

• Word problems based on real-life situations using rational numbers.

Exponents Powers

• Laws of exponents with integral powers

• Square and Square roots using the division method for numbers containing

1. no more than a total of four digits

2. no more than two decimal places

• The cube and cube roots (only factor method for numbers containing at most three digits)

Sets

• Union and intersection of sets

• Disjoint-set

• The complement of a set

Unit 2: Ratio and Proportion

1. Compound Interest (compounded yearly up to 3 years)

2. Tax-related problems (rebate sum included)

3. Direct and inverse variations – Simple and straightforward word problems

4. Time and work problems – Simple and straightforward word problems

Unit 3: Algebra

1. Algebraic Expressions

2. Algebraic Expression - Multiplication and division (Coefficient should be an integer)

3. Inequalities 

4. The solution of simple inequalities in one variable.

5. Simple Factorization like, a (x + y), ax (c + d)

6. Solving contextual problem linear equations in one variable including word problems of multiplication and division (avoid complex coefficient in the equations)

Unit 4: Geometry

•  Understanding shapes

Properties of quadrilaterals – Angle Sum property

Properties of a parallelogram (through verification)

1. Opposite sides of a parallelogram are equal,

2. Opposite angles of a parallelogram are equal,

3. Diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other.

4. Diagonals of a rectangle are equal & bisecting each other.

5. Diagonals of a rhombus bisecting each other at right angles.

6. Diagonals of a square equal and bisect each other at right angles.

Unit 5: Mensuration

1. Cube, cuboid, cylinder – Surface Area.

2. The total surface area of cubes & cuboid.

3. Understanding the concept of volume, measurement of volume using a basic unit, the volume of a cube, cuboid, and cylinder

4. Volume and capacity (the measurement of capacity)

Unit 6: Data Handling

1. Simple Pie charts with reasonable data numbers
